A short-lived herbaceous perennial, often woody at the base, with upright or scrambling stems up to 2m high or long, with lance-shaped green leaves up to 7cm long, and racemes of fragrant pink or purple flowers, up to 5cm across, from late spring to autumn. Sow snapdragon seeds in autumn or early spring. Sow seeds thinly on the surface of moist, peat-free seed compost, and then keep in a greenhouse or covered propagator on a sunny windowsill. Transfer seeds into individual pots when large enough to handle, and grow on in a sheltered spot or a cold frame. Plant out after all risk of frost has passed.
