An upright, fast-growing annual, with lance-shaped leaves, reaching a height of 1m by the end of the season. From summer into early autumn, daisy-like bright yellow flowerheads with red centres are borne on branching stems.
Coreopsis flowers produce a beautiful warm orange natural dye. It’s also a beautiful addition to the garden border for it’s tall stem length, drought tolerance and long flowering window, producing masses of flowers from midsummer to autumn.
The best time to plant coreopsis seeds is in the spring, after the danger of frost has passed - late March to early May, depending on local climate conditions. Coreopsis seeds can also be sown in the autumn, as they are hardy enough to overwinter and germinate in early spring. If starting seeds indoors, begin planting them 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost to give the seedlings a head start.
